Dear God, Have mercy on our children

There’s a popular saying nowadays that goes like this: “since they removed prayer from schools, Satan the Devil, has walked in to take that space.” Or, “they take God out of the schools and replace them with policemen.” It’s not that policemen are Satanic or anything of the sort, but the point being made is there’s no more need to seek God’s guidance for protection, instead we rely on human beings for protection.
There’s much wisdom and truth in those sayings. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms has a brief but significant and profound declaration that many people seem to forget or want to forget. It says, “Canada is founded upon principles that recognizes the supremacy of God and the rule of law.” At the time of its declaration, the God that is referenced is the God of the Bible.
But that declaration seems to have gone out the door in this post-modern era, hence practices like prayer in school or invoking the name of God at times, have become so politically incorrect, that no one dares make mention of the Divine. This is common in both the public and private sectors. Schools have been among the first punching bag to feel the brunt of basically the outlawing of God in public settings.
One can recall back in the nineties following the crash of a Swiss Airliner on September 2, 1998, off the coast of Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, which killed 229 people. A memorial service was organized after the horrific crash. The media reported that some clergy was told by the Office of the Prime Minister, “not to mention Jesus or make reference to the New Testament because somebody might be offended,” during the service. An Anglican priest wrote to the Prime Minister’s office subsequently to protest the move. Representatives from other religions attended the service but none was told of any restrictions about what they could say.
Incidents like this was just the beginning of what we see happening to Christians in our society today. The name Jesus Christ has turned into a scorned and ugly name. If you mention it in some places you are bound to get a second look. Drag queens can go to the libraries to read to our innocent minds even with their suggestive and outrageous innuendos and no one seems to see anything wrong with it. But if you dare attempt to enter a library to read bible stories publicly just like what the drag queens are doing, you know the answer already. As long as it’s Christianity, it won’t work.
Our schools are not only to educate nowadays, it seems, it’s also to indoctrinate that truth is relative, and what was once right in the past has now become bad or wrong, and what was once bad has become good. It’s no wonder some students leaving high school cannot read or find it difficult to multiply 20 by 2 without a calculator. Education is not what is used to be. In days gone by, you would go to school to learn Mathematics, History, Biology, Geography, etc. You had to work hard to pass those subjects; nowadays, we hear some students can no longer get a zero if they didn’t work hard enough to pass the subject. It might hurt their self-esteem or some other silly notion. Where have our values of hard work gone?
On the other hand, we have sex education being introduced to the wee ones – that’s whom you find in kindergarten. The sex education leaves much to be desired and much to the imagination of young ones because you can see the activism role in devising that curriculum. Governments couldn’t care less. In fact, they are in on it. When it becomes policy there’s hardly anything teachers can do. Yet some teachers are just as bad because among them are activists, too. Instead of instilling the value or hard work to achieve something, our children are being introduced to sex at such tender age even before they can understand and appreciate who they are. The entertainment industry, which supports all forms of immoral behaviour, is laughing. When it comes to entertainment, sex is number one. More money, more profits, at the expense of our children.
Immorality drives the agenda. Gender is no longer biology, but a new philosophy driven by activists backed by the courts and governments. Where are our scientists? No one seems to want to speak out for fear of reprisals from a vocal minority. Yet, it’s the same very school will teach the evolutionary theory to your child as if it’s proven science. Why? Because there is no room for God in school, whether in the curriculum, or otherwise. Confusion. Our children are confused.
Unfortunately, when disaster strikes, they very same people will be questioning where was God at the time they needed him. God has always been around and has never left in the first place. Society tends to want to need him only for convenience. When will the government, leaders, and society at large recognize the supremacy of God that is written in its very own constitution or charter. Perhaps they never will especially at a time when some provinces here in Canada are bent on creating a secular society.
We are at God’s mercy. Our children that go to school each day hoping to make something better of their lives when they become adults, are at his mercy. It’s as if there’s a huge monster (society) waiting to swallow them up and dump them in its filth and a never-ending downward slide from which it may never return. When immorality reigns, societies break down. When you play with God’s prescription for a family, you are courting disaster. We are breeding a monster.
We don’t know who we are in today’s world. God created male and female; today, we are told we are not because of a tiny minority who feels otherwise. The science of biology is ignored. Our children are our future, we keep on saying, so shaping their minds from an early age is part of the strategy to shape a new society void of the God of the Bible. God is sovereign. He’s in charge. He’s in control. May God have mercy on our children.
Jesus promises His people this in the latter part of verse 20. Matt 28:20…and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” He will never leave us, no matter how dangerous it becomes for His followers to live in this world. We should not be surprised with what is happening around us; if it wasn’t so, then the Bible would not be true. Jesus Himself cherishes our children. “Children are a blessing,” he says.
What do we do in the meantime? The earlier part of Matt. 28: 19 says, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…”
Not only that, the Bible warns, Eph. 5: 16 But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Also, Luke 21:34-36 “Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
We must continue to pray for our children. They are at God’s mercy during these perilous times spoken of in the scriptures. 2 Tim. 3:1, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.Dear God, have mercy on our children!
